Course description

Learn Silver Jewellery Etching in Sydney.

Etching is used to create a rich surface decoration that can be textures, patterns, writing or imagery. In this Silver Jewellery Etching course, you will learn about etching metals to create your own unique pieces.

In this course you work with PnP paper, which is great to use as a ‘resist’ and makes it easy to etch anything you want – be it a drawing, pattern, texture, writing/script or image. You will learn how to transfer this to the surface of a copper, brass or silver sheet and then incorporate this into items of jewellery.

You will gain an understanding about the etching process as well as about the health and safety aspects of this work and you will be able to etch materials that you’ve brought from home.

You will design and make
  • An etched copper bangle (practice session)
  • An etched silver pendant or a pair of earrings AND/OR
  • An incorporation to your own jewellery design

This course is designed for beginners and experienced students.

Also, please be advised,

The white areas will be eaten away and the black lines will remain after the etching process.

Please find here an example of a negative image:

Additional metals will need to be purchased by the students, according to the work they want to make, from jewellery suppliers.
