Learning outcomes

  • create moving mattes that can be templated for compositing into video presentations
  • use motion tracking features to stabilise footage
  • go beyond simple layer/property parenting and use null objects to control many layers
  • work with trim paths to produce “Springy” Text
  • use repeaters to reduce total layer count
  • introduce colour correction/grading into a composition
  • use keying, rotoscoping for image separation
  • include 3D Elements in a composition

Please note: This is a crash training course in Adobe After Effects so the facilitator will aim to fit in as much content as possible, however, they might not be able to cover some of the above in time.

Basic competency with computers is assumed before enrolling, proficiency in other Adobe software is helpful but not essential for enrolment.

If driving, there is no entry into Gordon Street from Victoria Road. Last block on your right before Victoria Road. Pedestrian access is opposite Prince Street.

What to bring to class

  • A USB stick (minimum 32GB) or portable hard drive (minimum 500GB) for storing your data (optional)
  • Set of earphones/buds with 3.5mm jack for listening to audio content.
  • Pen and paper or device to take notes  (Notes of all exercises and files are provided)

Additional information

This After Effects course runs in our computer lab, fitted with 27-inch Apple iMac systems as well as Dell computers running the Windows operating system, both types of computers have the latest Adobe apps installed. Adobe products function the same on both Windows and Macintosh computers except for minor differences with keyboard usage and where files are located within the computer.
