Join this fun and colourful Abstract Art workshop to learn the skills and techniques to create your own abstract artwork. No previous art skills are required.

This workshop explores the major themes in abstract painting. Learn everything about colour, using texture, making effective composition and how to finish your artwork off.

Bring along your canvas in the size you wish to paint on and your brushes. Acrylic paints will be provided.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this class you will have:

• an understanding of abstract art
• learned about abstract composition
• practiced colour mixing and layering using acrylic paints
• learned various paint application techniques
• created a beautiful artwork to take home

Please come prepared

• Two canvas in your preferred sizes – 60 × 40cm minimum
• Painting knife or old credit card
• Items for impressed texture such as netting, fabric, combs, forks, leaves, sticks, feathers, sponges, letters – use your imagination
• Pen and paper
• Willow Charcoal medium size
• Workable Fixative
• Variety of brushes for acrylic paint
• Disposable palette pad or a large white plastic or china plate
• Old rags cut into 20cm pieces.
• A selection of paint will be provided, but feel free to bring your favourite colours to class if you wish.

• Closed-in shoes required
• Please wear old clothes
• Long hair must be tied back
